Riot Nrrd

Hey There Pearls,

Coming up Live at The Pearl Company on June the 6th is Riot Nrrd! This weekend is the Cd release party for the fantastic Riot Nrrd! We are super excited about this release! It is sure to be fantastic! Here is a bit more about the show.

Riot Nrrd is a Hamilton-based musician, (aka Conrad Sichler,  a holistic medicine practitioner) belting out his own folk-pop-punk punk his own, or Can-rock with a band. This is music for people who think too much. Among his influences are Billy Bragg, The Weakerthans, The Replacements, The recording band is Bob Doidge (bass and more!), Danny Lockwood (Drums), Frank Koren (electric guitars), Amy King (back-up vocals, piano), Vince Rinaldo (keys), and Neil Nikafor (bass on some songs). And oh, Conrad Sichler (vocals, acoustic and electric guitars, percussion, back-up vocals, song-writing, masterminding). The album was recorded in Hamilton at Grant Avenue Studios with Bob Doidge producing, What's particularly endearing about Riot Nrrd is that the music is not over- produced, dolled drivel. It's raw, unadulterated feeling expressed through fun folk-rock.

Doors open at 7:30 and the show starts at 8:30pm. The Opening act is Dave Gould. Tickets are $15 at the door (with CD: $25 admission, $20 for students/ retired/ fixed income) Riot Nrrd will be starting at 9:30pm.

Written by local students and teachers , 60 Days of Summer is a  story which follows the misadventures of a group of students who attempt to live a full summer with no eco- footprint. Earth is personified through song and movement. Packed with interpersonal tensions, dream sequences and plot twists, the outcome is not what the students expect.
" 60 days of Summer takes us on a theatrical adventures where young people challenge themselves to leave "no impact" on the earth- not just for 'Earth Hour'- but for an entire summer. The variety of backgrounds and world experience in this diverse cast allows them to explore some tough questions about the price of climate change and who pays. Infused with music, dance, and Eco-Inventions- the play has something for everyone in this fun, at times whacky, but ultimately inspiring production. Leaving "no-impact" on the earth- leaves a lasting impact on the audience!" ~ Catherine Silverglen (OCT)

Shelly Marshall's : Hold Mommy's Cigarette

Hey there Pearls!

Coming up in April is Shelly Marshall's hit show , Hold Mommy's Cigarette! It is showing from April 10th to April 13. This show is phenomenal! If you've seen this show before or any of the other shows that Shelly Marshall has written and/ or performed in than you know that she only ever brings her "A- game". This show is defiantly no exception! Here is a bit about Hold Mommy's Cigarette.

Shelly Marshall presents, The Award Winning Production "Hold Mommy's Cigarette". One Woman's story of an unfiltered life, written and performed by Shelly Marshall, Directed by Linda Kash. It seems appropriate that world renowned Comedienne, Marshall would open her years autobiographical One Woman Show in the city where the story and star were born. It took 10 years for Marshall to create this Play and it is the rewarding result of resilience, recovery, and reflection while exploring the many genres of performance including elements of clown, stand up, improv, buffoon, and play. Shelly Marshall takes her audience many places; " I take them on an adventure, both emotionally and visually. There is no denying that my story is tragic, but it's my story and time exploitation of what has happened in my life, but rather an acceptance of where it may lead. It is a dark comedy, a vulnerable piece about my life, mental illness and survival." Marshall reveals with a smile. She invites you to come to her show with an open mind and promises you'll leave with a full heart.

This event is for all ages, I warn you now, it does contain "Mature Content". All the shows will start at 8:00 pm and doors will open at 7:30 pm , except for Sunday April 13th which will start at 2:00 pm. Tickets are being sold for $25 to everyone. Be sure to get here early to get great seats!!!

Carlos del Junco and The Blues Mongrels

Hey there Pearls!

Get ready to trash all you thought that you knew about the harmonica because the Pearl Company is proud to present... Carlos del Junco and The Blues Mongrels on Saturday March 29, 2014! Bringing a beautiful blend of classic styles of music it's truly an event you don't want to miss! Here is a bit about who they are:

Carlos is one of those players whose music is so advanced that when it comes to awards, it's either retire that category or rephrase the question to  "Best Harmonica Player Not Named Carlos". As the Eight time Harmonica Player of The Year at the Maple Leaf Blues Awards, it's clear that he has some MAJOR skill! Simultaneously Sophisticated and raw, the band's playing blurs the boundaries between blues and jazz. The emphasis is on blues, but they are not afraid to merrily traipse off in other directions delivering a seamless fusion of New Orleans second line grooves, jazz swing, Latin, hip-hop, or ska melodies, to swampy roots rock. The Blues Mongrels are: bassist Henry Heillig (founded the nine piece Latin band Manteca), and Guitarist Eric St. Laurent. The Blues Mongrels delivers a no-holds-barred display of fun and melodic virtuosity. "...a model of focus and urgency... a true virtuoso... Brad Wheeler - The Globe and Mail.

If you have ever made any kind of music with a harmonica, and yes I do include when you were a kid and goofed around with one, than you won't want to miss what this group can do!! It is a great way to spend an evening , with or without the kids (although you may end up wishing that you had left them when they suddenly decide they want to play the harmonica as well..). Get your tickets now so that you won't miss out on such a memorable night! Tickets will be sold for $20 in advance and $25 at the front door! This group of flamenco artists recently returned to Canada from Seville, Spain where they spent some time Studying flamenco intensively, and are now organizing a tour to perform the new material. Most also Perform with Flamenguitos del Notre, a flamenco collective that has performed at flamenco festivals across Canada. It is during the fin de fiesta that the true improvisational and spirited nature of flamenco shows itself, and it is that lively spirit that inspires the group. FIN DE FIESTA is made up of guitarist Dennis Duffin, singer Tamar Llana, and dancers Lia Grainger and Alexandra Talbot.

First on the list is on March 14th, with the amazing Celtic Fusion Band... RANT MAGGIE RANT!!!
I bet your all just as excited as I am to see these guys live in the Pearl Lounge! Here is just a bit about who they are.

Rant Maggie Rant, one of Canada’s most exciting Celtic fusion ensembles, hits the road again. Since their formation in 2008, this Stratford-based band has been wowing audiences at festivals, concert halls and symphonic stages across Canada and the U.S. with their outstanding artistry and on-stage vibe. Rant Maggie Rant brings together four superbly talented musicians who like to colour outside the lines. During their concerts, they will deliver a beautiful traditional ballad, chase it up with an Appalachian-style groove and end with a killer jig or reel. Traditionalists love their time-honoured style, while new Celtic music listeners are drawn to the band’s fusion of World influences. “Rant Maggie Rant exudes a style and brand of Celtic entertainment that is both new and old. Their showmanship, and delivery combined with their diversity of traditional sound coupled with upbeat and unexpected blends, makes them a welcome addition to any musical line up….”  Maggie Durocher, Windsor Celtic Festival.
